Dakini, in Tibetan khandro or sky-goer, is associated with spaciousness or emptiness, which is the realization that nothing has a permanent, substantial, independent existence of its own. This ground is not nothingness but expresses itself as a luminous, infinite, dynamic force of wisdom, that enables the ever-changing display of life to arise in its multiple forms. Therefore, emptiness is regarded as the creative feminine principle; the mother that gives birth to the arising of all phenomena.

There are a variety of ways to approach this principle. In her book Luminous Emptiness, Francesca Freemantle states: “The five great elements, arising from emptiness, are the mothers who give birth to all phenomena. When they are perceived in this way they are known as the five female buddhas. In the tantras, they are called devis, dakinis, mothers or queens…”
During the programme, we will explore the Dakini Principle from the perspective of the five elements as inherent qualities of awakened mind that manifest in all aspects of life, whether physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual.

Being in nature and coming into direct contact with the outer elements in the beautiful surroundings of Dechen Chöling are important parts of this programme. You will take part in talks, exercises, contemplations and explorations with body and voice. And, of course, time for exchange, listening and looking into the guidance we can find in these principles for our situation right now.
