Spontaneous Kyudo Gathering
Dechen Chöling August 7 – 15

Dear Kyudo family,

The covid crisis has been a long and tough challenge for Dechen Chöling. Programs and other activities had to be cancelled, and consequently the Dechen Chöling staff  has been reduced to a bare minimum.
But the situation at Dechen Chöling is evolving as the government regulations change and relax, and our longing to practice hasn’t waned. So, in close contact with Konstanze Brockstedt, the Dechen Chöling director, we have decided that there is room for a cautious revival.
Your presence here, practicing Kyudo, circulates the energy and brings most wanted life and joy to this beautiful place at a difficult time.
So, I am very happy to let you know that later this summer we will be allowed to practice Kyudo together at Dechen Chöling.
The dates will be August 7 – 15; the 7th being arrival day, and the 15th departure day.

This is not an official program.
The practice will be spontaneous, informal and self organized.
Although some of the designated staff members will come,
there will be no staff as usual, and Sensei will not lead the program.
And of course we will be required to respect all health regulations
connected with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Practice will be open for experienced students who bring and can handle their own equipment.
Students who can come one or two days earlier to help set up the shajo are welcome. We will practice in the open air; and the kyudo barn. We will need to be creative but by now we all have so much experience that it should not be too complicated.

It is advised to bring your own tent, as most people do anyhow. There are just a few rooms available for lodging. Showers and toilets will be available in compliance with the health protocols. However,  Dechen Chöling will arrange to have a cook, and meals would be served in the main dining tent. And, since we will not have the usual expenses for a fully organized program with Sensei, the cost for staying at Dechen Chöling will be 50 euros per day. Of course, any donation for supporting Dechen Chöling on top of that is most welcome.

The number of people who can participate is limited to 20 participants.
Please let me know if you are planning to come, so I can begin making arrangements to host you. We will need to know how many people are coming in order to know how much food to buy and plan for meals.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected].
I will act as a liaison between the kyudo family and Dechen Chöling.

It will be wonderful if you can come!

All best greetings,
Herb Elsky.
